TRAINING: ERC - WRITING A COMPETITIVE PROPOSAL (Rio de Janeiro) Horizon 2020's program for excellent researchers looking to set up their own team in Europe or to collaborate closely for frontier research with a small group of Europe-based teams. This one day training, offered by ENRICH in Brazil and hosted by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Rio de Janeiro, will introduce the European Research Council (ERC) funding options. It will explain how and why to apply for the grants, complemented by a report of a successful applicant. Valuable information about the evaluation criteria and process will be provided. The theoretical information will be supplemented by practical exercises. The ERC funds ambitious researchers and their groundbreaking research ideas and is part of Horizon 2020.

Aiming at fundamental advances at and beyond the “frontier“ of knowledge, the ERC seeks to encourage the highest quality research through competitive funding by supporting research bottom-up across all fields on the basis of scientific excellence. The ERC is open to researchers of all nationalities who are interested in conducting research in Europe. Furthermore, since 2019 an ERC Principal Investigator may be hosted by an institution outside of Europe if he/she is supported by an ERC Synergy Grant, which funds the collaboration of small groups of minimum two and maximum four Principal Investigators (i.e.
